St. Louis PetLover Coalition appears at the St. Louis Holiday Magic Show

Members of the St. Louis PetLover Coalition participated in the first annual three-day St. Louis Holiday Magic Show, held Dec. 4-6 at America's Center.

Visitors were welcomed to the pet area called Purina Pet Pole where they could purchase pet items, as well as participate in the pet adoption process.

The event featured entertainment, cooking competitions, indoor rides and lots of unique shopping. More than 10,000 visitors attended the show which helped increase public awareness about the Coalition.

St. Louis has made remarkable progress over the past few years in becoming a more pet-friendly city. That has meant acting on our resolution to treat all animals, beloved pets and ferals, humanely. Because of its age and obsolete design, the City's Animal Control Center is no longer able to provide humane care for stray animals. After consultation with its staff, I have decided to close the facility by summer, at the latest.

Nestlé Purina's Vice President of Animal Welfare, Betsy Cohen, said, "We had researched and spent time in other cities that have created these kinds of coalitions – Denver, Austin, New York, and others. And we saw the amazing things that happened when individual pet organizations came together to support each other and focus on their common goal: to save pets. "We wanted to see if we could make this work in St. Louis, too."
